2022 MOLDB President Kikuchi’s New Year Message

Happy New Year to everyone at MOL Drybulk, let me say a few words for the New Year.

I think you had a relaxing time with your family and friends during the New Year’s holiday, and I also spent time with my family and feel refreshed.

As you know, this year is the Year of the Tiger, but in the Oriental zodiac, it is called “Mizunoe-tora.”. It seems to be a year in which new products will grow beyond the harsh winter, and this year is suitable for MOL Drybulk, which was born last year, to make a big leap forward.
MOL Drybulk was able to respond well to changes in the business environment, such as the disruption of marine logistics and the volatile market last year, and I feel that it is responding to the “strong and flexible” organization. Let’s further strengthen our strengths. In addition, the new accounting system, which is scheduled to be integrated in April this year, will also be introduced. We hope that this integration will be carried out smoothly and that the new accounting system will be utilized to the maximum extent possible to improve the efficiency of both the corporate and sales divisions.

The end of the corona is yet to be seen, and the disruption of maritime logistics caused by the corona is expected to continue this year, and the market is expected to remain volatile. Volatility is inherent in the shipping market and cannot be avoided, so let’s take it as an opportunity and face it boldly and use wisdom to make profits.

Next, there are environmental issues. Last year, our company laid the groundwork for environmental measures, such as wind power propulsion, hydrogen engines, and biofuels. I would like to go even further this year to promote environmental measures.
Our customers will soon be required to reduce their own GHG emissions as well as SCOPE3 in the transportation sector. Let’s do everything we can to respond quickly at that time.

No matter how the shape of the organization changes, “safety” must not change. This is a company that brings together organizations from different backgrounds such as irregular, tipping, and inshore, but we would like to bring together best practices for safety and further raise safety standards.

Last but not least, this year is also the year in which the true value of the new MOL Drybulk will be tested. As I mentioned earlier, we would like to strengthen our strengths and raise our productivity, and take a further leap forward with you as a group of “strong and flexible” dry bulk professionals. I would like to conclude my remarks by wishing you good health and happiness this year and safe operation of this ship.
